Well, here's a sentence we never thought we would write: Wreckfest is out now. As in the final, finished game. It only took nearly five years to get out of Steam Early Access, but the wait is finally over. Developed by Bugbear, the developer behind the original FlatOut series, Wreckfest marks the return of destructive demolition-derby style racing, and features the most advanced damage modelling system we've ever seen.

"In retrospect, it’s been a wild and exciting journey. Back when we embarked on this project, Wreckfest was supposed to be a short little project to create a new, simple racing game in the spirit of the original FlatOut but it soon dawned on us that we can do SO MUCH more with the premise," the developer wrote in a blog post. "So, being straight-forward people as we are that’s what we did, and after four years of development during which no sweat, tears and game engines were spared, the end result is the game that you get to play today. We sincerely hope you will have fun with it!" The developer also promised to continually improve and update the game.

Among the highlights from the launch update include four new challenge vehicles including a harvester and a school bus (seriously, school bus demolition derbies are actually a thing in America), new customisation parts, an updated career with new unlocks, car rewards and challenge events. The user interface has also been overhauled with new art, and a new Countryside Demolition Arena has been added. For the first time, Wreckfest also now has a licensed music soundtrack.

While PC players can finally enjoy the final full release right now, console players will have to wait a bit longer as Wreckfest won't be crashing onto the PS4 and Xbox One until November 20th.
