Williams Grand Prix Engineering has launched its new esports venture, ahead of the outfit's competitive debut in the F1 eSports Series.

Titled "Williams eSports", this new outfit will allow Williams to compete "in a range of online sim racing competitions". Bar the aforementioned F1 eSports Pro Series, it's unknown at time of writing which competitions Williams eSports will participate in.

In addition to racing for the Williams name, Williams eSports drivers will also benefit from training and development at Williams' Oxford facilities. Furthermore, the esports drivers will also have the opportunity to work with Williams' technical staff in the team's F1 simulator.

Overall management of the team will be undertaken by JIM Racing esports team founder Javier Guerra. As part of Guerra's involvement in the Williams eSports venture, the JIM Racing team will be renamed as "Williams JIM Racing Junior".

Currently, Williams eSports talent lineup consists of three ex-JIM Racing drivers: Bernando Perez, Javier Perez and Jani Vitsaniemi. External competitions will be used by Williams eSports to help further flesh out its driver roster, with the Williams JIM Racing Junior team also operating as "another route for gamers to graduate to Williams eSports in the future".
