You may not realise it, but this month marks the 20th anniversary of a small unassuming grey box that just happened to be one of the most influential games consoles in history: the PlayStation. And if you're European and feeling confused, the original PlayStation launched in December 3rd 1994, before arriving in Europe in September 1995.

If you impatiently imported a Japanese console prior to its European launch, practically the only game you could play was Ridge Racer; a game that arguably revolutionised the 3D arcade racing genre for home console as we know it. If you aren't quite old enough to remember it, it's hard to convey just how awe-inspiring it was to play a home console game that fully replicated an arcade experience.

Fueled by nostalgia, Alan dusts off his cherished PlayStation in this off-the-wall video blog commemorating the iconic console's 20th anniversary, reuiniting himself with Ridge Racer and attempting to revitalise his drifting skills. It didn't go well – isn't it frustrating to fail miserably at a game you were once so skilled at all those years ago? It may look dated now, but Ridge Racer remains a pertinent example of a game that's easy to play but hard to master – just as every addicting arcade game should be.
