New action-packed Onrush video shows first gameplay glimpse

Martin Bigg On March 9, 2018

We've seen plenty of hi-octane trailers showing Codemaster's new all-out action arcade racer OnRush since the game was announced last year, but we've yet to see any raw gameplay footage. Until now.

In a new bonus video, Game Director Paul Rustchynsky narrates a special director's cut of the recent Stampede trailer explaining how Codemasters achieved that glorious uncut shot at the end of the trailer showcasing the non-stop action you'll be facing in every race.

Like in MotorStorm, the first OnRush gameplay video confirms that each environment will have multiple branching routes and shortcuts tailored for different vehicle classes. As multiple vehicle types battle for position across a beach track, known as Sanctuary Shore,  Rustchynsky explains how up to 24 vehicles will always be on-screen at once - and they won't all be AI opponents.

Instead, OnRush incorporates a 'Fodder' system, where neutral AI vehicles roam each track. These vehicles can be taken out easily and will provide an instant hit of boost when hit. Essentially, it sounds a lot like the traffic-checking system in Burnout Revenge, which may prove divisive. Don't forget, too, that OnRush doesn't feature traditional finish lines, so this isn't the only way Codemasters will tear up the racing game rulebook with the upcoming arcade racer.

OnRush will be crashing onto consoles June 5th, with a PC version to follow at a later date. Pre-ordering the PS4 version will gain players access to a beta in May
