Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame landing on consoles and PC next year

Martin Bigg On December 6, 2017

Italian developer Milestone its continuing its monopoly of the bike racing genre with the upcoming release of Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC early next year, with a Nintendo Switch version following "shortly after" as well as mobile platforms. Whereas the MXGP series focuses on the European motocross championship of the same name, Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame sees the developer branch out to an American audience.

Due to land on all formats on February 13th 2018, the game features all the 250SX and 450SX class bikes, iconic stadium tracks, and riders from the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship including Chad Reed, Ken Roczen, and reigning champion Ryan Dungey. As with most Milestone games, Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame also features extensive bike and rider customizaton.

For the first time in a Milestone game, Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame will include a powerful track editor with "endless gameplay possibilities." Players will be able to create, customize and share tracks with other players online.

Like MXGP 3, Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 to replicate the sport's eye-catching pyrotechnical effects, as well as accurate recreations of tracks, stadiums, bikes and athletes’ faces.  Rider's faces were modelled using a new 3D scanning system, while photogrammetry was used to reconstruct accurate 3D mock-ups of all tracks along with SpiderCams and classic cameras. Ground textures are also now more realistic thanks to an enhanced texturing system and lighting effects are also said to be improved, resulting in more realistic weather effects which were first introduced in MXGP 3.

Following the initial announcement trailer, a new video has been released giving us a glimpse of some of the stadium tracks that feature in the game, including the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, the  Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis,  the U.S. Bank Stadium in  Minneapolis, the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, Daytona track in Florida and the  Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

We were pleasantly surprised with the improvements made in MXGP 3, so  Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame could satisfy that supercross game itch when it launches next year. What do you think of what has been shown of  Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame so far? Let us know in the comments below.
