Great Scott! Has it really been 30 years since the release of Back to the Future already?

To commemorate the anniversary of one of the most beloved film franchises, developer Psyonix are releasing some Back to the Future-themed content for their PSN car football sensation Rocket League in the form of (what else) a playable DeLorean DMC Time Machine.

The Back to the Future Pack DLC is significant for two reasons: it's technically the first licensed car released for Rocket League and the release date happens to fall on October 21st – a date that resonates with Back to the Future fans as it's the date that Marty McFly transported to in Back to the Future II's warped vision of 2015 where video chat, hands-free gaming and virtual reality headsets are an everyday sight. Oh, wait.

Psyonix are big fans of the Back to the Future franchise. Apparently it was always their goal (no pun intended) to feature the famous DeLorean Time Machine in Rocket League: "Truth be told, we used to fantasise and joke about having the DeLorean Time Machine in our game months before it even came out," the developer wrote in an official PlayStation blog.

"We were all such huge Back to the Future fans here at Psyonix, that it was one of the few “Holy Grails” we had hoped for besides having a hit game. The fact that we’re getting both of those “best-case scenarios” in the same year is an amazing accomplishment for us, they’re things we’ll never forget!"

"Hopefully you’ll never forget your time with the DeLorean Time Machine either, as we’ve worked meticulously to recreate its look, feel, and folding jet-wheels just as they appeared in the original motion picture trilogy. Best of all, it’s a heck of a lot of fun to play with — and comes complete with its signature “Burnt Rubber” Rocket Trail to boot!"

The DeLorean Time Machine will retail for $1.99 or the regional equivalent when it blasts onto PSN October 21st.
