The new 'IR18' Dallara DW12 IndyCar spec is reportedly coming to the Forza series, according to a senior IndyCar marketing manager.

Speaking to Racer.com, CJ O'Donnell (IndyCar's Chief Marketing Officer) revealed "Forza will be adding the new IndyCar to its platform this season". As a result, the Forza franchise will be the first racing game released on consoles to include the revised Dallara DW12 single-seater (the car made its racing game debut in March 2018 on the PC racing simulator iRacing).

No additional details on the IR18's first Forza appearance were stated in the article. However, it's incredibly likely the new IndyCar model will be introduced at some point to Forza Motorsport 7.

Since the launch of the Xbox One, the Forza Motorsport games has had a long-running association with the IndyCar Series. Dallara DW12s have appeared in every Forza Motorsport title released on the Xbox One to date, with 2017 IndyCar Champion Josef Newgarden also having a working relationship with the Forza series.

In the same Racer.com article, CJ O'Donnell also confirmed a "dedicated" IndyCar game is something the motorsports series is looking into. Though it was stressed that "discussions regarding this" have yet to conclude, it's expected to hear "good news" on this development "in the coming year".

The IR18 specification of IndyCar open-wheeler is an evolution of the Dallara DW12 that made its racing debut in the 2012 IndyCar Series. As well as improving crash protection, the new DW12 design also drastically changes the aesthetic and aerodynamic properties of the car over its original incarnation – thus, in theory, resulting in closer and more exciting-to-watch racing.
