Game: Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo

Platform: PC, PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Milestone S.r.l

Release Date: 29/01/2016

Milestone may no longer be helming the WRC game license, but they haven't stopped developing rally games completely, as the passionate team continues to work on their new IP Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo currently in development for PS4 and Xbox One (what, no PC?) for release this Autumn. In what is clearly a complete coincidence following today's WRC 5 announcement, the first screenshots for Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo have been revealed, showcasing a Sweeden snow stage.

Milestone's astute attention to detail is on full display, as some of the screenshots show direct comparisons against the real world stage, revealing the accurate positions of track-side objects in Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo's recreated stage.

Other notable visual improvements highlighted in the screenshots include an advanced tracking system for tyre marks that react accordingly to different surfaces, the advanced rendering features of the new shader, a real time reflection system and a new camera system featuring dynamic focus effects and television-style framing during replays.

Visually, I'd say Milestone currently has the edge over WRC 5 based on what we've seen sp far. Granted, we haven't seen any gameplay footage of Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo yet, but the lighting engine (it's likely they've reused YEBIS 2 from MotoGP '14 which produced stunningly realistic lighting effects) shown here looks more realistic compared to the sterile look of the WRC 5 trailer. And just look at those trees. This generation is all about realistic trees.

Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo also has the advantage of having all its resources poured into current-gen releases compared to WRC 5 which is cross platform, although the lack of PC release for Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo is bewildering. Time will tell which game reigns supreme when they go head-to-head this autumn.
